Nencki Institute was founded in 1918 by Marceli Nencki and currently is the leading research institute in neurobiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. It is considered to be one of the biggest research institute under Polish Academy of Sciences.

The Institute is home to 40 laboratories organised into 4 departments, as well as 6 core facility laboratories forming the Neurobiology Centre established in 2013. The Institute is very successful in obtaining European grants reaching almost 15 million EUR in recent years.

Its location allows for multidisciplinary collaboration within the 'Bio-centre Ochota' with easy access to other research institutes and hospitals. International collaboration with institutions from over 20 counties allows for research dissemination and scientists mobility.
